A comprehensive overview of the SPME technique and its theoretical and practical foundations for leveraging its tremendous potential.

The School spans three days and alternates theoretical sessions with practical training and open discussions to better understand the opportunities and challenges associated with using this technology.

The first two days focus on the theoretical aspects of the technique relating to the various extraction methods. Issues related to the development of analytical methods and applicable sampling strategies will be addressed, with reference to chemometric principles. To this end, it is necessary to deepen one's knowledge of: conventional analytical techniques for transitioning to solid-phase microextraction; SPME fiber phase selection; matrix recovery verification; and internal standard selection.

The third day, in the laboratory, is dedicated to the use of online and offline SPME automation systems. This includes both manual and automated exercises. Finally, the third day offers an opportunity for open discussion and exchange on the topics covered. Specifically, together with the instructors, we will evaluate the analytical conditions for using the SPME technique and the potential problems that may arise, in order to identify applicable solutions.

The School is aimed at both users approaching SPME for the first time and those wishing to acquire new tools to expand its applicability.
