The Gerstel TE 2 is a Thermal Extraction sample preparation system for bulk samples to be analyzed using a Thermal Desorption System.
It has been widely used to determine the emission potential of materials used indoors in vehicles and in commercial or residential buildings.
A solid or gel sample is placed into the TE tube and is heated to the desired temperature.
Volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds (VOC and SVOC) are extracted from the sample and transferred to a TD sorbent tube with a carrier gas flow.
The compounds are then determined using the Thermal Desorber (TDU, TD 3.5+ or TDS) in combination with a GC-MS(/MS) System
For quality control of a total aroma extraction in combination with sensory-directed analysis (SDA), the total aroma extracted, for example, by DHS onto a sorbent packed tube, can be desorbed in the TE and assessed for completeness by the olfactory specialist directly at the exit.
