8890 GC System

The Agilent 8890 Gas Chromatograph System provides fast, accurate results; flexible functionality allows you to meet your specific analytical needs while ensuring accurate results and high productivity.
Built-in intelligence and sixth-generation EPC enable autonomous diagnostics, which check the health of your GC system and alert you to potential problems and how to resolve them. Step-by-step instructions for common GC maintenance procedures are provided on the touchscreen or remotely via a browser interface that allows you to monitor your GC, check system logs, and run diagnostic tests, from inside or outside the lab. The system features:

  • a touch screen that provides a complete visual report of the configuration, allowing you to update the active method, perform maintenance routines and check the status of the GC instrument
  • an integrated intelligence that autonomously monitors the health of the GC, alerts you to potential problems before they impact chromatographic performance and provides helpful step-by-step troubleshooting guides
  • a unique sixth-generation EPC microchannel architecture provides significant improvements in reliability and durability against gaseous contaminants such as particulates, water and oils, extending system uptime and instrument consumables life
  • a very low thermal mass Capillary Flow Technology (CFT) modules can be installed inside the oven for gas flow connections for multidimensional gas chromatography (GC x GC/Deans Switch), full gas chromatography (2D-GC) with flow modulation and even backflush at the beginning, middle or end of an analytical column

The 8890 GC can accommodate detectors to meet your analytical needs. Available detectors include:

  • single-filament thermal conductivity detector (TCD) requires no separate reference gas or manual potentiometer adjustment, yet provides a stable baseline with minimal signal drift commonly seen with valve switching
  • autoranging flame ionization detector (FID) provides the ability to detect and quantify from percent to ppb level in a single GC injection
  • sulfur or nitrogen chemiluminescence detector provides low ppb detection, equimolar response, and quantification of sulfur or nitrogen contaminants without matrix quenching
  • mass detector, compatible with all GC/MS platforms

Helium Saver Module, Gas Saver, and alternative carrier gas solutions can dramatically reduce the amount of helium used, providing flexibility and cost savings. Independently audited for environmental impact throughout the product life cycle, the GC 8890 has received the My Green Lab ACT (Accountability, Consistency, Transparency) label.
