The Agilent 8890B Gas Chromatograph is designed to ensure accurate and reproducible analytical results, maximizing laboratory productivity through advanced smart monitoring and diagnostic features.
Equipped with GC Assist technology, the instrument minimizes unplanned downtime and optimizes workflow efficiency.
Thanks to advanced Electronic Pneumatic Control (EPC), precise oven temperature management, and a deeply updated user interface, the system supports highly flexible configurations, drastically reducing method development times.
Key Features and Technological Innovations
- GC Assist Platform: The smart heart of the system. It constantly monitors instrument health and data quality. It reports real-time results that fall outside predefined quality control limits, detects carrier gas leaks, and indicates when maintenance is required.
- User Interface and Remote Access: The GC features an updated 7-inch touchscreen display. The Local User Interface (LUI) includes on-board maintenance video guides to assist operators with routine procedures. Via a secure remote connection, you can monitor instrument status, configure methods, and troubleshoot from any device.
- Microchannel-based EPC Pneumatics: Provides superior protection and longevity against typical gas contaminants (such as particulates, water, and oils), significantly extending the overall uptime of the system.
- Capillary Flow Technology (CFT): Oven-installable CFT modules ensure reliable, completely leak-free carrier gas flow connections, supporting complex and multidimensional chromatographic separations.
- Integrated Oven Light and Fast Cooling: Includes an internal light to visually inspect the oven (with adjustable brightness) and an optional Rapid Cooling Fan capable of bringing the oven temperature from maximum to minimum in less than 3 minutes, reducing the time between injections.
- Efficiency and Sustainability: Equipped with programmable "sleep and wake" modes to reduce energy and resource consumption when the instrument is not in use.
Technical Details
- Configuration Capability: Supports simultaneous installation of up to 2 inlets and up to 4 detectors (in valved configurations).
- Valve Management: Accommodates and controls up to 10 valves (which can also be installed inside the column oven).
- Oven Performance: Maximum operating temperature up to 450 °C; maximum thermal ramp rate of 120 °C/min (75 °C/min for 120V models). Oven cooling speed is improved by up to 30% compared to previous models to reduce cycle times.
- Analytical Repeatability: Retention time repeatability <0.008% and peak area repeatability <0.5% RSD. Features Retention Time Locking (RTL) to maintain stable retention times after maintenance or across different Agilent GC systems.
- Detectors: FID (Flame Ionization Detector) features auto-ranging to detect and quantify from percent levels to parts per billion (ppb) in a single injection. TCD (Thermal Conductivity Detector) single-filament design that eliminates the need for a separate reference gas or manual potentiometer adjustments. It also supports optional detectors for hydrogen, sulfur, and nitrogen.
- GC/MS Compatibility: Interfacable with Agilent Single Quadrupole, Triple Quadrupole, and Q-TOF mass spectrometers
